File
name prefixes
Each car in LFS has a unique file name prefix at the beginning
of the file name. For example, the FZ50 GTR carries the prefix
FZR_ at the front of the file name.
So we have FZR_mygreatskin.jpg
We
(and the devs) recommend using upper case (capital) letters
and the underscore ( _ ) in your
prefix. This helps you to identify skin files easily by name,
at a glance. It is also the way the default skin files are named
in LFS.
File
format
All skins files are JPG files.
You must make sure that your skin is JPG
format and not a BMP or PNG or
GIF etc. While online LFS looks out for jpg files with a skin
file name prefix. So any deviation from the normal naming convention
means your skin will not be seen by others. LFS
Skins are JPG files.
File
name length
File name length. Make sure your filename is not too long. Including
the prefix, the filename should be no more than 15 characters
long. This does not include the .jpg extension on the end.
Naming
When naming your file it is wise to choose a unique name that
is unlikely to exist already for someone else's skin.
Putting your intitials in the filename and/or a number can help
to keep your skin names unique. For example, John Smith might
name his skin FZR_JS01porsche. This is better than just naming
it FZR_porsche, chances are that fifty other people will also
try to name their skin FZR_porsche, it is an obvious name but
not unique. John's second FZR might be named FZR_JS02porsche,
you can see how this method has its advantages, it's easy for
you to spot your skin's filename in a crowd.
It is also a good idea not to use special characters in your
filenames. Characters like *, &, $, <, @ etc should be
avoided.
Which
Folder Do I Save My Skins To?
There are two skin folders in your main LFS
Folder, one is simply called skins
and the other is called skins_x.
The
skins folder is where you should
put any skins that YOU will use
on YOUR car.
The skins_x folder
is where you should put OTHER PEOPLE'S
skins. You will still see
them online when your mates use them but the extra skins won't
be cluttering up your skins menu or making your personal skins
hard to find.
Licensed
racers can choose to download other racer's skins automatically
from LFS World when racing online, these all automatically go
to the skins_x folder. Licensed racers get the benefit of uploading
and storing 30 skins online at LFS World for other licensed
racers to download in-game online!
Enable or disable automatic skin downloads from your options
menu in LFS.
